SB 300 Sentencing Reform Act of 2021 – First Senate Public Safety Hearing

April 6, 2021 @ 9:00 am - 10:00 am

SB 300’s first hearing in Senate Public Safety is next Tuesday, April 6th at 9:00 am. The author will be presenting the bill along with two experts directly impacted by the bill.  To help smooth over some of the difficulties of giving public comment under COVID, we’re offering to read your organization’s name during the hearing as a supporter. We’re hoping we can show immense support for our bill without jamming up the phone lines at the Capitol. If you’re interested your organizing being named in support, contact info@womenprisoners.org with the subject “SB 300 Hearing.”

We are encouraging people who are directly impacted by this bill to call in and express their support.  The call-in information is posted the morning of the hearing.  If you respond to this email and let me know you’d like to give a “me too” I will send you the info.  The process to show support is very short, you would state your name, where you are from (city you live in), and “I spent/or my loved one has spent x number of years incarcerated due to felony murder/special circumstances, I urge you to support this bill.”

As a reminder, SB 300 will reform California’s felony-murder special circumstances law and ensure that the death penalty and life without the possibility of parole cannot be imposed on those who did not kill, nor intend that a person die, during a crime.
