Almost 10% of people incarcerated in CDCr will face a transfer to ICE when they complete their sentence or are released on parole, solely because they were born outside the U.S. CCWP opposes this racist double-punishment. CCWP supports individuals in fighting against CDCr to ICE transfers before release, meets people at the gate when possible and assists in filing their asylum applications if the are detained by ICE. We successfully supported former LWOP Marisela Andrade in her 19-month fight against deportation from an ICE detention center in Colorado. We continue to advocate alongside our incarcerated community members to stop CDCr to ICE transfers.
CCWP works as part of a statewide coalition, ICE Out of CA (iceoutofca.org), with 100+ other community groups, to stop individual deportations and to work for policy and legislative change to stop CDCr and county law enforcement cooperation with ICE.
ICE Out of CA coalition has helped to pass legislation to limit ICE’s impact, as well as joining together to support individuals fighting against ICE detention and deportation, and supporting local community efforts to expand sanctuary city protections and stop county sheriffs from cooperating with ICE.
